Cartier Bagatelle – Vintage Sunglasses, Gold & Wood, 1990s
An exceptional and highly sought-after piece from Cartier’s exclusive Prestige Collection of the 1990s. The Bagatelle model exemplifies Cartier's refined craftsmanship, combining precious materials with timeless French elegance.
This pair features a round rim design with 22kt gold-plated metal construction, paired with solid wood temples, seamlessly fused with gold accents in the brand’s signature triple-line motif. The arms are engraved and finished with original Cartier logos in gold.
The original Cartier lenses are still intact and in excellent optical condition — a rarity for this model. The lenses carry the discreet Cartier "double C" logo, etched into the top corners, attesting to their authenticity.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. The lenses are clean and free from scratches. One noticeable plating chip on the front rim (clearly shown in the photos) is present due to age, but it does not affect structural integrity or wearability. The wood temples are in excellent shape and the gold details remain bright.
Includes the original Cartier leather slip case with golden corner accents, which is itself a collectible item.
This model was crafted during a period when Cartier was producing eyewear in extremely limited numbers, often handmade in France. The Bagatelle, like the Vendôme and Diabolo models, is considered one of the iconic round silhouettes, blending modernism and heritage design in a way only Cartier could execute.
A rare collector’s find — especially in this complete and original configuration.
Estimated market value:
Depending on condition and completeness, similar pieces sell in the range of $1300 to $1700 USD. The presence of original lenses and case supports strong pricing despite the minor cosmetic flaw.
Why it matters:
The Bagatelle model was named after the Parc de Bagatelle in Paris - a place known for its elegance and architectural harmony. Like the park, this frame embodies understated luxury and cultivated taste. Authentic Cartier wood & gold frames from the 1990s are becoming increasingly rare, particularly in wearable condition.
An iconic and sophisticated investment piece for the true connoisseur of vintage eyewear.
